Papaya Global and Slice connect equity administration with payroll

In October 2026, Slice announced a partnership with Papaya Global to connect equity administration with payroll and workforce payments. The proposed connection gives compensation teams a more joined-up process for share awards and subsequent payments. Its usefulness will depend on how accurately local requirements and individual worker circumstances are reflected in each transaction.

Slice describes equity-compliance coverage in more than 67 countries, while Papaya’s broader infrastructure spans more than 180. The announcement includes equity management without an additional charge for workers engaged through Papaya’s employer-of-record and contractor-of-record services. These are supplier statements about scope and pricing, rather than independent evidence that every award qualifies for a particular tax treatment.

Define the responsibility at each handoff

For global benefits and rewards teams, the practical opportunity is to connect an award with the employment and payment records that make it usable. Procurement should therefore examine an actual employee journey, beginning with the proposed grant and continuing through vesting, a move between countries and a payment event. A demonstration that starts only when cash is ready to be distributed leaves earlier decisions untested.

The employer should be able to identify who approves the award, who maintains the relevant country rules and who checks the calculation before payroll receives an instruction. The contract should also explain who corrects an error and communicates with the employee. Assigning these responsibilities matters even when several stages appear in one interface. A common screen can conceal separate contractual duties and different escalation routes.

Test the countries and workers actually involved

Country totals are an initial screening measure. A meaningful assessment needs the proposed instrument, the worker’s engagement model and the relevant dates. A directly employed manager and an individual engaged through an employer of record may require different approvals and documentation. Employers should obtain confirmation for the actual population they intend to include, rather than infer universal eligibility from a provider’s overall geographic footprint.

Consider, as a test scenario, an employee who receives an award in one country and relocates before a later payment. The employer should ask which employment and residence facts the system retains, how a disputed allocation is reviewed and what evidence supports the final instruction. This is an implementation question for the employer and its advisers, not a claim that any particular allocation or tax result necessarily follows.

Make compensation understandable to the recipient

An employee needs to understand the difference between the value shown for an award and the cash ultimately received. Communications should explain the applicable conditions, the point at which estimates can change and where to obtain individual guidance. Benefits teams can help reconcile the award explanation with wider total-reward communications, while keeping plan terms and personalised advice clearly distinguishable from promotional illustrations.

The same care applies to contractors. Offering a common experience does not establish that employment status, entitlement or tax treatment is identical. The administrative record should retain the basis on which each person was included. Access to sensitive compensation information should follow the task being performed, with an agreed process for granting, reviewing and removing provider access when responsibilities change.

Judge the integration on completed cases

A pilot could track the time needed to resolve missing data, the number of corrections after approval and whether employees can reconcile their statements with payments. Employers should also price the full service, including any advice, payment or foreign-exchange charges that apply to their arrangement. An included administration feature should not be read as a promise that every related service is free.

The partnership is relevant because equity increasingly sits within the same compensation discussion as salary and benefits. The buying decision should follow a documented trial using representative cases, including one that fails validation. Approval is better grounded in a clear responsibility map and evidence of successful reconciliation than in a broad claim that global complexity has been removed.
