Global broker Arthur J. Gallagher in September 2017 announced the acquisition of property and casualty insurance broker Nordic Försäkring & Riskhantering  in Gothenburg, Sweden, for an undisclosed amount.

Sweden is considered to be a core strategic development area for Gallagher, following the 2013 purchase of international marine and energy broker Bergvall Marine, based in Norway, and Brim, who are Stockholm trade credit, political risk and consulting specialists.

The deal allows Gallagher to extend its footprint in Sweden to cover Stockholm, the capital, and Gothenburg, which is an important commercial hub for manufacturing and industry. This will also allow Gallagher to leverage its acquisition of local commercial insurance broker Dahlkvist, which specializes in passenger transportation, engineering, and construction lines.

Established in 1991 by the father of two current business leaders, Nordic brings Gallagher’s existing specialist product offerings into Scandinavia’s additional P&C lines while adding new areas of expertise and capability, such as life sciences, transportation, and engineering. Nordic also offers affinity specialization, working with trade associations, professional groups, and industry sectors to create tailored solutions for members and their customers.

At this time, AJ Gallagher’s global employee benefits services do not appear to be impacted.
