MAXIS Global Benefits Network (MAXIS GBN) in July 2025 announced it is working with Care Plus, the largest premium healthcare provider in Brazil. Care Plus will offer medical coverage to MAXIS GBN’s captive clients across Brazil.
Care Plus was founded in 1992 and was later acquired by Bupa in 2016. It provides healthcare solutions to more than 1,000 companies, covering 600,000 members across Brazil. It has more than 15 health programmes, allowing it to provide a unique experience to each individual customer, depending on their individual needs.
Care Plus takes a holistic approach when it comes to well-being, with plans to support mental health, cardiovascular disease, maternity and more. Its focus on customer services has led to 93% of participants rating Care Plus as “great or good”.
Caio Abdalla, Chief Commercial Officer at Care Plus, said: “We understand the challenges that multinationals looking to care for their people across Brazil face. As experts in the local healthcare landscape, we’re excited to be joining the MAXIS network so we can use our knowledge and experience to deliver vital healthcare solutions to its multinational clients.” Iliyana Mladenova, Chief Operating Officer at MAXIS GBN, said: “Brazil is an important strategic market for multinationals, so we’re delighted to welcome Care Plus to the MAXIS network and offer our clients a medical solution in the market. We’re excited to see how Care Plus can use its innovative approach to healthcare to provide a great service to support our captive clients and their people.”
Care Plus will provide medical solutions to MAXIS GBN’s captive clients, while MetLife Brazil remains part of the MAXIS network as the preferred life insurance provider in the country.
As an observation, the fact that MAXIS offers Care Plus exclusively to its captive clients — and not to its multinational pooling clients — suggests that the network’s owners, AXA and MetLife, are currently reluctant to underwrite medical risks in Brazil. Nevertheless, by making Care Plus available to captive owners, the network delivers an effective solution that underscores the strategic value of an employee benefits captive, particularly in hard insurance markets where fully insured coverage is unavailable or limited.
