Feng He is Professor of Global Health Research at the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine, Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

She qualified as a physician in China. After two years working in clinical posts, she went on for postgraduate training in Cardiovascular Epidemiology and worked on several projects on the monitoring and prevention of cardiovascular disease for several years in China.

She came to the UK in 1996 and joined Professor Graham MacGregor’s team at St George’s University of London. She obtained her PhD in 2002. Since then, she has been doing research on the role of dietary salt and potassium intake in regulating blood pressure and preventing cardiovascular disease.

She has been involved in a number of randomised trials on salt and potassium, including leading the largest double-blind salt reduction trial in three ethnic groups of adults funded by the Food Standards Agency and a double-blind trial comparing different potassium salts funded by the British Heart Foundation.

Her research paper on salt and soft drink consumption in children was awarded one of the top three papers in the category of population science by hypertension in 2008.

In 2009, she moved to the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. She continued her research on salt and has recently extended her research to China. She is currently leading a MRC funded project on salt reduction in school children in China.
