Fitbit Launches Fitness Tracker for Plan Beneficiaries

Fitbit in February 2019 launched a new fitness tracker, the Inspire [1], which is available through health and wellness providers only.

From a consumer perspective, the Inspire is a fully subsidized (i.e. free) product intended to be distributed in mass quantities and is promoted “as a way to encourage the well-being of health care recipients”.

The tracker monitor activity and sleep, calories burned, and prompts wearers with reminders to get up and move. An upgraded model, InspireHR, adds a heart rate sensor. Both include a touchscreen display with time and other information such as call and message notifications.

Fitbit reportedly has close to 7 million wellness program users. Nevertheless, consumer sales of fitness trackers seem to be tapering off and prices cannot be increased much without getting into smartwatch territory. This probably explains Fitbit’s move into bulk sales to corporates and healthcare providers.
