Generali group general manager Frédéric de Courtois in May 2019 was elected vice-president of Insurance Europe (IE), for a three-year mandate. He succeeds Torbjörn Magnusson, group CEO and president of Sampo Insurance Group.

Insurance Europe is the federation of national re/insurance associations from 34 E.U. and other European countries.

Frédéric de Courtois began his career in the IT sector with CGI Informatique in France, before moving to French insurance leader UAP, which later merged with AXA. He successively was vice-president of AXA Conseil; deputy CEO of AXA Re; CFO of AXA Japan; deputy CEO of AXA Life Japan; and CEO of AXA Japan and Asia Pacific P&C.

Returning to Europe, he was sent to Italy as CEO of AXA MPS Assicurazioni and chairman of AXA MPS Financial; then as CEO of AXA Assicurazioni, later also assuming responsibility for the Greek and Serbian markets. He joined Generali Group as CEO of global business lines and international. Recently, he was appointed general manager of Generali [1], overseeing insurance, finance, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, strategy and business development, operations and marketing.

De Courtois is an engineering graduate from Telecom ParisTech; he also holds an MBA from Collège des Ingénieurs in Paris and completed his actuarial studies with the Institut des actuaires (Institute of Actuaries) in Paris.
