Howden Employee Benefits in September 2026 appointed John Deegan to its U.K. board as a Non-Executive Director, while also bringing him on as an adviser to its Global Employee Benefits Executive Leadership Team.
Deegan brings more than 25 years of experience from Mercer Marsh Benefits and its predecessor businesses, where he led the multinational employee benefits operation and oversaw Darwin, its global benefits technology platform. Over his career he has worked with colleagues and client teams across more than 70 countries, helping multinational employers coordinate benefits strategy across markets by combining local expertise, technology and a consistent client approach.
His appointment comes as Howden Employee Benefits continues expanding its international capabilities and sharpens its proposition for multinational employers. Glenn Thomas, CEO & Global Practice Leader for Health & Employee Benefits, said Deegan’s deep market knowledge and team-building track record make him a strong fit for the firm’s “People First” culture. Deegan said Howden’s ambition, energy and local expertise were what drew him to the role, and that he looks forward to supporting the business’s next stage of growth.
Howden operates in 57 countries with 25,000 employees and manages more than $54 billion in premiums. Deegan’s appointment signals a continued push by Howden to build out its multinational benefits offering, and further senior hires in this space are likely as competition for global employer clients intensifies.
