IBIS Academy organizer Gallagher in March 2018 published updates to the conference agenda, particularly significant to the IBIS Mobility track running 7 – 9 May 2018. Three sessions on the 2.5-day agenda are of particular interest to global mobility managers.

Important Updates in the World of Mobility Tax

Tax compliance and planning is not easy, but this session, featuring Stephen C. Daas, Partner Global Client Experience, Global Tax Network, will simplify it for you. The major tax law changes in the US effective for the 2018 tax year is one of the important updates in the world of mobility tax that will be addressed. The review of tax law changes in various countries will highlight the impact to mobility and benefit programs and actions that can be taken.

Managing Risk, Managing Compliance Roundtable

Global Mobility Professionals are in a unique – and often unenviable – position of balancing sometimes contradicting obligations. A roundtable moderated by Brian Friedman, Founder of the Forum for Expatriate Management, will allow participants to discuss strategies for compliance in tax, immigration, labor, and benefits. In addition, global mobility professionals must take measures to help protect the safety of employees, including appropriate insurance, training, and/or other strategies

“I don’t know – Send it to HR:” Employment Essentials for the Global Mobility Professional

Global Mobility Professionals may or may not be human resources experts. But, their day-to-day duties necessarily involve considerations of employment laws that vary widely across the globe. Minimum entitlements, termination protections, post-employment obligations, and related issues can land an employer in inadvertent litigation in multiple countries. Participants in this session featuring Trent Sutton of Littler Mendleson PC and Alexander Bartz of Vanguard will address some of the key regional distinctions of essential employment consideration to better understand the red flags, questions, and risks that apply when placing in expatriate in that location and to enhance more thorough and conscious decision-making.
