Laurent Chambaud

Head of the French Institute of Advanced Studies in Public Health

Laurent Chambaud is the head of the French Ecole des hautes études en santé publique (Institute of Advanced Studies in Public Health) since 2013.

A public health doctor and inspector general of social affairs, he was previously in charge of the organization and animation of public health policy and health security with French Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Marisol Touraine.

Laurent Chambaud began his career in child protection services. He then moved to Quebec where he practiced as a public health physician in the Quebec community health network and obtained a master’s degree in community health from Montreal University.

Returning to France, Chambaud trained as a medical inspector of public health at the National School of Public Health (ENSP), before joining the Health and Social Affairs Department and returning to ENSP as a teacher.

A national expert seconded to the European Commission, then coordinator of the project to set up the National Institute for Health Surveillance, he was subsequently head of a county, later a regional health and social affairs department.

After a stint at the Inspectorate General for Social Affairs, Laurent Chambaud was appointed Director of Public Health at the Ile-de-France Regional Health Agency, a position he left to take up his post in the cabinet of the minister of health.
