Mark Smith is a Professor Human Resource Management and Dean of Faculty at the Grenoble Ecole de Management, France. As Dean he leads 150 permanent faculty. He was previously Director of the Doctoral School and Associate Dean (2013-16) when he managed one of the largest doctoral schools for management sciences in Europe. He previously worked at Manchester Business School and has carried out research work for a number of European and National institutions.

He is an active researcher and established the “Organisations Work Identity & Careers” research team in Grenoble Ecole de Management. He has worked on a large number of European and national projects with a particular focus on gender equality, labour market policy and working conditions. He has carried out funded research work for a wide range of institutions, including; European Commission, the European Parliament, the International Labour Office, the British Council, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, European Social Fund, the Anglo-German Foundation, and Centre d’études et de Recherches sur les Qualifications.

He has been invited to speak to policy makers, commission officials and researchers on gender equality issues on many occasions including at a number of European Union Presidency events. He has authored or co-authored over fifity books, book chapters and journal articles. His most recent books include Youth Employment (with O’Reilly, C. Moyart, & T. Nazio), Gender and the European Labour Market (with F. Bettio & J. Plantenga, also published by Routledge in 2013) and Business Ethics – A critical approach: integrating ethics across the business world (with P. O’Sullivan & M. Esposito, published by Routledge in 2012).
