MAXIS launches Wellness Intelligence Tool

MAXIS Global Benefits Network (MAXIS GBN) in October 2019 launched its Wellness Intelligence Tool (WIT), a digital service that helps organizations estimate potential medical cost savings resulting from changes in employee behaviors and lifestyles.

The tool helps organizations quantify the impact that behavior change could have on the health and productivity of employees. The tool was developed by MAXIS GBN in partnership with actuarial consultancy Habits at Work.

Integrated W.H.O. Data Sets

MAXIS WIT integrates comprehensive global data sets from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and incorporates actuarial assumptions benchmarked against Technical Actuarial Standards (TAS) 100. The tool is customizable, allowing organizations to insert company values such as medical claims data, employee turnover, and identify medical cost trends.

In three steps, users can calculate their organization’s potential medical cost savings.

After selecting the relevant country, users then see sliders that represent seven health-related behaviors: exercise, healthy eating, sleep, smoking, stress management, talk intervention, and drug adherence. The sliders show the current status for employees’ specific health-related behaviors, detailing the percentage who currently display optimal behaviors. Users can then set an improvement target for a specific health-related behavior.

Multinationals can benchmark healthcare cost savings

Assuming behavior change interventions are successful, the tool enables multinationals to estimate potential cost savings for each health-related behavior, whether they choose to set a conservative or ambitious target.

The tool also enables users to check which of seven identified behaviors would likely have the biggest combined impact on the health of the workforce. Company experts can build a regional business case for wellness interventions and track outcomes against other markets by analyzing clusters by geography. This allows them to benchmark the success of interventions over time, and the associated reports can then be used to help build a business case for wellness campaigns.

MAXIS WIT is available to MAXIS clients who receive an annual health and wellness paid claim report as part of their global program, and is accessible via the OneClient portal. At launch the tool includes data for 26 global markets including the United Kingdom, Russia, China, and the U.A.E., with a pipeline being established for the inclusion of additional countries in the future.
