Susan Bird new Chair of the World Pension Alliance

Susan Bird in May 2017 was elected as the Chair of the World Pension Alliance (WPA) for the coming term. She succeeds Bruno Gabellieri from the European Association of Paritarian Institutions (AEIP). Ms. Bird is a Board member of the Multi-Employer Benefit Plan Council of Canada (MEBCO), the President of the McAteer Group of Companies from Markham, Ontario and has very significant experience in the pension and benefits area.
According to the WPA, “the availability of an adequate workplace pension gives workers dignity in retirement and is a major positive determinant for health. The encouragement of workplace pensions is a force for the common good.”
The World Pension Alliance deals with pension plans that touch the lives of over 400 million people and its members have over $10 trillion dollars under asset management. European, Asian, Antipodean, North and South American pension systems are represented in the WPA. The Alliance met for its annual meeting in Montréal, May 9th, 2017 which preceded the 9th Transatlantic Conference, also held in Montréal.
