Hanno Mijer in September 2018 became CEO of Zurich’s travel insurance provider Cover-More, succeeding Mike Emmett. He will relocate from the city of Zurich, Switzerland to Sydney, Australia. He reports to Jack Howell, CEO Asia-Pacific, and to Group Chief Strategy, Innovation and Business Development Officer Giovanni Giuliani.

Before his appointment at Cover-More, Mijer was Zurich’s Global Head of Corporate Life and Pensions, a major driver of the growth of the company’s life insurance business.

According to a note to staff obtained by Australian website www.insurancenews.com.au, the group targets “a new era of worldwide growth” for its Australian travel insurer. It intends to leverage Cover-More’s “position to develop a truly global platform, expand offerings in health and wellness, and [build on] opportunities that exist as part of a global insurance company”.

Born in the Netherlands, Hanno Mijer began his career with AEGON Insurance in the Netherlands, Eastern Europe and Asia. He held a number of marketing, sales and executive positions, including Head of Business Development Asia and SVP Marketing & Sales of its Dutch Corporate Life & Pensions division. Prior to joining Zurich, he was in charge of global marketing and sales of Watson Wyatt’s Insurance practice. He holds a Masters in Actuarial Science from the University of Amsterdam and completed executive courses at Harvard, INSEAD and IMD.
