Dr Rock is the Director of Research of the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA, the French National Research Institute of Agronomics) and Project Officer for India & China in its International Relations Office (INRA-CIRAD).

In addition to institutional activities, he contributes to work carried out by the Centre de Recherche en Nutrition Humaine d’Auvergne (CRHN – the Auvergne Region Research Center for Human Nutrition) as Deputy Director, and to that of the Société Française des Vitamines et Biofacteurs (SFVB – French Society of Vitamins and Biofactors) of which he is Vice-President in charge of scientific affairs.

On the research side, with a doctorate in Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, he successively worked in the fields of muscle biology in relation to muscular dystrophy and malignant hyperthermia before becoming involved in human nutrition issues. His work has focused on minerals and trace elements and later micronutrients, particularly vitamins and carotenoids, for their contribution to health through their antioxidant properties. He continues his work by extending them from nutrition to food by conceptualizing a search for holistic markers through the concept of “Healthy Core Metabolism“.
