Thomas Lillelund Appointed CEO of AIG Europe

AIG in August 2018 announced the appointment of Thomas Lillelund as CEO of AIG Europe, based in Luxembourg and reporting to Chris Townsend, CEO, International General Insurance.

He will be responsible for Continental Europe and Ireland. Anthony Baldwin, now CEO of AIG Europe Limited, will become CEO of AIG’s new UK entity, American International Group UK Limited, and will continue to report to Townsend.

Headquartered in Luxembourg, AIG Europe SA is the new legal entity set up to carry out AIG’s business in the European Economic Area and Switzerland in the wake of Brexit. AIG will transfer existing business to the new UK and European entities and merge AIG Europe Limited into the new European company. The two new companies are to begin writing business from 1 December 2018.

Lillelund joins from Hamilton, Bermuda-based reinsurer and specialty insurance carrier Aspen Re where he has been Chief Executive Officer. Previously, he served as regional managing director of the Asia-Pacific region for Aspen Re. Earlier, he was AIG’s Regional Vice President in Southeast Asia, and worked for various companies in Hong Kong, South Africa and the U.S.

He holds a B.A. in Economics from William & Mary University in Williamsburg, Virginia and an M.B.A. from Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. He also is a past president of the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association.
